Flush Draws
Playing Axs or Kxs, I am trying to hit the
Nut (best) or 2nd Nut flush. I want to make a four flush or
better on the flop, if this occurs I am slightly better than
2:1 underdog to make the flush by the river.
If I am four to a flush and in late position,
I will bet/raise if I am relatively sure of bringing the other
players with me. This builds the pot and is the slightly deceptive
ploy of betting on the come (drawing hand), if the flush hits
then other players may bluff at me, representing a flush,
thinking I was betting to prevent someone drawing to a flush.
This will only work with weak/naive players.
If I miss the flop, I fold.
Danger arises when the four flush doesn't
hit on the flop, but I pair my A, K or low kicker card. It
is likely that I am up against one hand where the kicker is
higher than mine i.e. AQu when I hold A9s, this would leave
me trying to pair my kicker card (7:1 underdog by the river).
I will fold this hand, a lot of players don't.
If my kicker pairs on the flop, I may call,
but fold to a raise, to see if I make trips or pair my A or
K. I would be more likely to continue if my kicker made top
pair as this could win outright with a A or K kicker.
If I get really lucky after I miss the flush
and make 2 pair on the flop then I am going to raise it up
and try to get the players with one pair to come with me.
