Pocket Pairs
Playing the non premium pairs is fairly straightforward.
I am looking to make a set (3 of a kind) or better on the
flop, if I don't and my pair isn't an overpair to the flop
then I will check/fold it.
The odds for making a set or better on the
flop are 7.5:1, so the pot odds aren't usually favourable
to see the flop, but the power of pocket pairs is their deceptive
quality when they make a set on the flop and the odds for
future bets make this a winning play.
Example:
You hold 66 in late position and the flop comes
AK6
with two opponents holding
AK
JT
You have a massive advantage over them and
you will surely get plenty of action from the player holding
AK(only has 4 outs to the A or K making him 5:1 underdog).
Don't slowplay this type of hand, raise and
reraise if you get the chance as the other players might think
you are trying to steal the pot or are overplaying Ax, Flush
